concept

truthfulness and thematic penetration

The Leipzig School angles for the socially committed artist, who aims at truthfulness and thematic penetration, who is interested in distinctive human destinies with recognisable whence and whither, who examines the being of society and encourages humanely change.

Social and individual contradictions as the constitutional food of acting work are the centre of our education.

history

The Department of Drama "Hans Otto" was founded in November 2009. It has emerged from the branch of study Acting at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig, that already before bore the name of the 1933 by the fascists assassinated German actor as the „Theaterhochschule Leipzig“ from 1967 until 1992.

Since 1945, first in Weimar, then in Leipzig generations of actresses and actors were trained. If you add the numbers, it is precisely 1815 women and  men until 2013 who studied here. They gained the stage examination, then the diploma and since 2013, the master's degree as an actor. They determine and change the varying face of German acting in theater, film and television, and change it with as actors, as artistic and stage directors, and acting teachers as.
