On 28 May 2026, from 1 pm to 4 pm, an Infor event followed by a discussion session took place on the topic of ‘Invisible Dynamics in Everyday Working and Studying Life – Reflections on Power (Relationships), Respect and Transparency’. The speaker, Maria Melms (mediator and conflict manager), introduced key concepts and dynamics relating to power and the abuse of power. The aim was to heighten awareness of often invisible interconnections and to develop an understanding of where boundaries lie and when power can take on problematic forms. At the same time, the focus was on the added value of a reflective engagement with power: for the quality of collaboration and teaching, for more transparent structures, and for a working culture characterised by respect and clarity. This involves understanding responsibility as a shared task within the organisation and strengthening the conditions that protect those affected.

On 27 November 2025, all 24 state conservatoires took part in the nationwide day of action ‘ART. POWER. HUMANITY.’. The HMT Leipzig also sent a clear message against discrimination and the abuse of power. The day of action, initiated by the Rectors’ Conference of German Music Academies (RKM), makes it clear here too: there is no place for the abuse of power at the HMT. We offered a diverse programme of lectures, workshops, discussions and information sessions, and created a space for information, exchange and reflection. In doing so, we are reinforcing a shared stance underpinned by respect, responsibility and humanity.

In 2023/24, for example, the Equality Unit organised events and workshops as part of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) initiative ‘Diversity at German Universities’. These included two action days: in 2023, the event “Diva, Divo, Diverse?!” used various formats to address the topics of women in composition, recognising discrimination and taking action, and reflecting on masculinity(ies). In 2024, under the motto “HMT connects”, alongside keynote talks on mental health and toxic masculinity, the issue of freedom from barriers was discussed and put to the test via an obstacle course through the university. International students gave an impressive showcase of the cultural diversity at HMT Leipzig through music, dance and stories from their home countries, and shared their experiences as international students in Germany.

The next family afternoon at HMT Leipzig is scheduled for 24 March 2027.
