Psychological counseling for students
Psychological counseling
Many students experience difficult personal life phases or acute stress and crisis situations during their studies, which they cannot always overcome on their own.
Students can turn to the Psychological Counseling Service with all study-related difficulties and personal concerns that affect their studies, such as learning and work disorders, writing, speaking and exam anxiety, feelings of loneliness and contact difficulties, depression and anxiety and more. All services are free of charge and are available to all HMT Leipzig students.

Typical concerns of students in psychological counseling include
- Tips on finding a therapist
- Coping with stress and exhaustion (colloquially known as burn-out)
- Exam anxiety
- Study doubts
- Identity and orientation problems
- Relationship, partner and family problems
- Feelings of loneliness and contact difficulties
- Depression and anxiety
- Questions about your own risk of addiction
Offers for students at the HMT Leipzig:
The student councils of the HGB and HMT Leipzig have joined forces to set up their own psychological counselling centre for students at both universities. Dr Ingolf Schauer, a qualified psychologist, is available for problems, questions and sensitivities of any kind. Private problems can be discussed as well as those relating to your studies. From doubts, fears, dissatisfaction, degree stress and anxiety about the future to disputes with friends and family - whatever is on your mind will be discussed! For the counselling days, which take place alternately at HGB (Wächterstraße) and HMT (Dittrichring), it doesn't matter which house you are from.
To make an appointment, Dr Schauer can be contacted by email at ingolf.schauer@hmt-leipzig.de or by telephone on 0174 - 972 5475.
Both the degree programme itself and student life can be very demanding. Therefore, study difficulties, personal conflict situations or psychological stress are nothing out of the ordinary.
