The new volume of the HMT Leipzig series ‘Arbeitshefte Architektur und Raum für die Aufführungskünste’ (Workbooks on Architecture and Space for the Performing Arts) is now available online in open access. 

ARBEITSHEFT #6: INTERIM GESTALTEN takes a current development as its starting point: due to a variety of necessary renovation, repair and technical expansion work, theatres and other arts venues are forced to produce and present their work at interim venues. In addition to some fundamental considerations on the special conditions and possibilities of temporary uses, four case studies form the core of the publication. The studies on the Staatstheater Kassel, Schauspielhaus Wuppertal, the Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Künste Berlin and the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin reveal very different conditions in the interim and various conceptual approaches that combine aesthetic, local and social aspects. The temporary becomes an opportunity to try out new programmatic settings and find a new approach to the theatre's programme with changed neighbourhoods. The interim becomes an experimental play space.
